How do I start a large painting? What I am I thinking? Sometimes I'm not totally sure when in the moment and painting. This is why narrating in hindsight is useful to share my thoughts with students. Creating my art, process and reference material are shown.
Starting a large artwork can be daunting to students, and it was to me as well when I first started. It's actually easier that you might presume. The trick is to have a strong concept and always go back to the one idea, even when using multiple reference sources. If the painting gets off track, you can re group by going back to the 'big idea'.
