This painting evolved in the studio from being on location in Paris and seeing the early morning light. Note final art and reference photo attached.
NOTE: digital camera froze in a few places for 1-2 min due to recording hardware issues (it's not your streaming service or computer). This is an older recording but placed back in the Library by request from students.
Sharpen your perception of special light situations. Challenge yourself to go beyond the reference photo. Stop and think before you start your project: what was the quality of light you saw? Besides my painting, find art (Monet, Pissaro, Cezanne, etc) that has a 'look' you like, or a quality of light you admire. Mix swatches of the colors in the art, especially the background (where objects dissolve with early light). Don't be afraid of gray or pastel hues, especially colors that seem 'wrong' because this contributes to the special light quality. (Trees are not always green, and the sky not always blue, they can be any color. ) Try to incorporate the colors another artist used in your own scene. This is a good way to begin to break out of 'copy the photo' mindset.
