A complex Paris street scene is simplified and broken down into smaller bits to paint easily. A focus of this demo is the feel of twilight and how to maximize the power of the streetlights. This is done with value. Design and 'main idea finding' are emphasized. Notan from the Digital U series and perspective example is shown (make sure to watch these if you are having trouble with perspective or value). Also see how figures can be simplified.
Copy the demo or use your own reference to create a twilight painting.
If you work from your own photo make sure to create a simple study (Notan) and know the perspective point(s). Value is what makes the lights dramatic, so add or decrease your lights accordingly. Figures are not as hard as most people think they are, use the treatment shown here and in the Bonus: Figures demo to create some standing or seated figures in your scene.
A potential pitfall is to use too much color and too saturated, you will find grey is needed to make the bright spots of light 'special'.
