Creating a Paris Cafe scene in watercolor from varied reference. Review of cafe plein air studies and concepts for people in the landscape and urban environment.
Books shown: Richard Scott, Sketching - from Square One to Trafalgar Square; Alwyn Crawshaw, Watercolor Painting Course (Note my copy is a 1998 reprinted paperback bought used, he has many good similar books if you can't find this one)
Sort your reference (plein air, art, photos) into mass shapes of light and dark. You can do simple studies first or try your iPad with overlay layers, or side-by-side drawing. Two options: do the demo as shown, or work on your own reference photo and idea. Very important (regardless of media used) to maintain the idea of light/dark mass and shape. We will review the concepts in this video in class on Feb. 2. (See welcome video Notes for reminders of schedule, time, etc.)
