Artistic Vision

Both brush closeups & the larger picture are shown. This 'double vision' (close / far) is essential to maintain when creating art.

This video shows the process of how to restate a painting after scraping and wiping out. This was created after a class demo for my recent Water Class. I scraped this to remove extra paint, and wiped down to remove more paint and get back to a Transparent Oxide Red stain from the initial drawing layer (still shot of this early stage is shown in part 1 of the video). The art was still wet and had no time to dry. This is on a 9x12 Centurion all-media primed panel.

Note Kolinsky sable brushes (shown last) are difficult to purchase in the USA currently due to import issues. An acrylic brush or badger hair brush will have the same soft feel and look.

Take courage to 'redo' a fresh painting. It's important after painting for 2 hours to take a break. This is often when I will want to repaint or scrape down a painting. This is not to be seen as bad, or as a failure, rather think of this as part of the art process. All segments of the painting should be harmonious and relate to each other. When painting this balance gets off. Also when painting for a while it's possible to loose focus on the 'whole'. This scrape and redo process brings the art into balance again. This 'push-pull' takes practice. Try it!
